Hody (The Feast) is part of the traditional holidays in almost every Moravian village. It is celebrated as a Christian holiday, but also as a day of abundance, joy and prosperity. The rich table of a Feast is a place where families and friends meet. The tradition does not have any specific date; it is different from village to village, and it is usually held on the day of the patron saint of the local church. Some well-known Feasts are St. Katharine’s, St. Wenceslas and St. Martin's, as well as the Emperor's, created by Emperor Joseph II in an attempt to unify all the dates. A Feast cannot be complete without the 'Chasa', groups of young people dressed in ceremonial folk costumes. The main figures of the Feast are the "Stárek" (a chosen boy) and the "Stárka" (his girl).
You are going to see a Sunday's part of "Martinský hody" (The Feast of St. Martin) in lovely South Moravian town Kyjov. (https://www.facebook.com/events/426657694643870/)
The program will start in front of the house of the first "Stárka", then we will join the parade to the house of the second "Stárka" to pick up the festive decorated Duck. After that, we will continue the procession to the square in front of the Townhall where the custom of "Stealing the Duck" (Kradení káčera) will take place.

MEETING POINT: Hall of the Main train station, at 13.00
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU: ISIC card (otherwise the price might be higher), warm clothes, snacks, money for the attractions
